Information Minister Ramzi Jreij hoped that the issue of solid waste management will be resolved soon, since the main dispute was based on specific details that can be solved.
In a statement to al-Seyassah al-Kuwaitia daily, Minister Jreij said cancelling the meeting between Prime Minister Tammam Salam and MP Sami Gemayel should not be considered as a negative step, stressing that Salam is close to the Kataeb party, which will pave the way for a solution regarding the file of waste management.
“PM Salam said he will not set a date for a new cabinet session unless a solution is reached, and a new meeting was scheduled for Monday, this means that a way out of the crisis has been drawn,” he added.
Lebanese Forces Chief Samir Geagea stressed that the election of a new president might take place during the upcoming parliamentary session scheduled to be held on the 28th of January, or any time before that date, once the boycotting parliamentary blocs decide to attend and vote for a new president.
In a statement to al-Seyassah al-Kuwaitia newspaper, Geagea said that the boycott of parliamentary sessions dedicated for presidential elections is categorically rejected, since it paralyzes the country in every field.
He reiterated the need that these deputies attend the voting session to elect a new president in order to restore the normal political life, through forming a new cabinet, passing a new electoral law and holding parliamentary elections, before kicking off political, financial, economic and social reforms.
Commenting on the dialogue expected to be held with head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun, Geagea said that the talks have started practically through the envoys of both parties, stressing that he does not seek “just a formal dialogue, but one with real outcome.”
“The talks will not be limited to the presidential issue, but will expand to include crucial and essential matters,” he added.
