The Lebanese Tima Deryan became one of the first Lebanese women to ski the last degree of the South Pole after skiing 60 nautical miles (111 km) and reaching the most southerly point on Earth on December 16, 2022.
In a post on Instagram, Tima expressed that the Lebanese flag will continue to rise worldwide “because Lebanese and Arab women can because women will continue breaking barriers to progress every day towards a gender-balanced world.”
“I wish to see more women, men, boys, and girls around the world breaking barriers and things to carve a better path for future generations,” she added.
In 2019, Tima became the first Lebanese woman and youngest Arab to summit Mount Everest at just 26 years of age after a two-month expedition during one of the harshest seasons on Everest.
She has climbed over 25 high mountains worldwide in the past five years, including all seven summits. Deryan is also the 1st Arab woman to climb Ojos del Salado, the highest active volcano in the world.
