General Security to secure 100,000 passports by early 2023
The Director General of General Security Major General Abbas Ibrahim, affirmed on Wednesday that the Lebanese General Security is set to receive 100,000 passports by the beginning of 2023.

Abbas told the Kuwaiti political newspaper Al Anba that there is no passport crisis but a crisis of increasing requests for passports, assuring that every Lebanese has the right to obtain a passport.

"As of 2023, we will receive 100,000 biometric passports," said Ibrahim. This will lead to securing a larger quantity of one million passports within six months.

Noting that there are about 22,000 passports in the directorate's vaults that their owners have yet to receive, 69 percent of those who completed the passports did not use them.

"The Lebanese are rushing to get a passport even though they do not want to use it. We hope things will return to normal in the first months of next year," he commented.
