France confirms two French journalists killed in Mali
        
France's foreign ministry confirmed on Saturday that two French journalists were killed in the north Malian town of Kidal after being taken by armed gunmen.         

"Claude Verlon and Ghislaine Dupont, journalists at RFI, were found dead in Mali," the ministry said in a statement. "They had been kidnapped by armed gunmen in Kidal."

Earlier, the governor of the region and several security sources told Reuters that two french journalists were snatched by gunmen in the northern Mali town of Kidal on Saturday.
     
"I have just got confirmation they were abducted by four armed men. They had left Bamako on Tuesday for Kidal," the governor, Colonel Adama Kamissoko, told Reuters.
