Yemen court delays verdict in Saudi elopement case

Prosecutors say a Yemeni court has postponed its verdict in the case of a Saudi woman accused of eloping across the border with her Yemeni boyfriend, as hundreds of youth demonstrated outside demanding the couple be allowed to get married.

Asaad al-Ghazeer said that he requested the adjournment Sunday to allow the UN's refugee agency to certify the woman, Huda Abdullah Ali, as a refugee.

Prosecutors say the 22-year-old is charged with illegally entering Yemen while her alleged boyfriend, Arafat Mohammed Taher al-Qadi, 25, is accused of helping her.

They say Al-Qadi told investigators that Ali's father rejected his marriage proposal, and the two were forced to elope.

The couple's supporters outside the court chanted, "The sit-in continues until the pair are wed."

The case was adjourned one week.
