UN chief: World must not lose focus on Syria
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says Syria is the biggest security crisis facing the world and warns international leaders not to lose focus on trying to resolve it.

Ban made his appeal in a statement Wednesday as Syria's civil war enters its fourth year. It comes as the two world powers key to resolving the crisis  the United States and Russia  are embroiled in a dangerous standoff over Ukraine.

But Ban said "Syria is now the biggest humanitarian and peace and security crisis facing the world" with neighboring countries bearing "unbearable" spillover effects.

The U.N. chief says he "deeply regrets the inability of the international community" to stop the conflict. He appealed "in particular to the Russian Federation and the United States" to take steps to re-energize peace process.
