Iraq's Deputy PM escapes assassination attempt
Gunmen attacked the convoy of Iraqi Sunnite Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlak in the Abu Ghraib area west of Baghdad on Friday, killing a guard and wounding at least five others.

The attack comes less than three weeks before a parliamentary election, the first since US troops left, which will be a major test for Iraq.

An assistant to the deputy premier said that "Mr. Mutlak is safe and was not hurt."

The identity of the attackers was not immediately clear, however Mutlak's assistant specifically blamed the army.

There is widespread anger among Iraq's Sunnite minority, which complains of being marginalized by the Shiite-led government and security forces.
