The Britain-based monitoring group stated that 847 prisoners, including 15 below the age of 18, and 6 women have died since the beginning of the year in security service prisons and army bases.
The observatory added that families and relatives were notified of the deaths, stressing that all these people lost their lives as a result of torture, summary executions, maltreatment, poor detention conditions, including lack of food, and because they were unable to obtain the medicine they needed.
Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman mentioned that the number of victims is increasing since measures are not being taken to deter the regime.
More than 150,000 people have so far been killed in the Syrian conflict. Some 2.5 million people have fled abroad, while 9 million people inside the country need help - including nearly 3.5 million who have no access to essential goods and services.
