Bride-to-be Amal seen in striking red evening dress ahead of wedding to George Clooney

All eyes were on the look out for bride-to-be British-Lebanese barrister Amal Alamuddin on Saturday (September 27) as the countdown to her wedding to two-time Oscar winner George Clooney began.

A water taxi fittingly named Amore ("Love" in Italian), used by the happy couple a day earlier, pulled up outside the hotel where Alamuddin is reportedly staying just before midday on Saturday.

The 36-year-old human rights lawyer was photographed late on Friday (September 26) evening wearing a beautiful, striking red evening dress as she returned to the 7-star Aman Hotel on Venice's Grand Canal. The dress ,with a risqué thigh-high split and long trail, sported a butterfly motif at the waist.

Amal's sister, Tala, who looks strikingly similar was pictured wearing an equally glamourous blue evening gown.

Alamuddin had been at an evening event at the Hotel Cipriani on the island of Giudecca, where Clooney and other stars regularly reside during the Venice film festival.

The official ceremony for the couple is expected to be held on Monday (September 29) at Venice's town hall, the 14th-century Ca' Farsetti palace, and Italian media reported that the former mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni, would officiate.

Venice's local government said it would close off a few of the town's narrow pedestrian streets for two hours on Monday.
