Four kidnapped Turkish citizens freed in Afghanistan

The Taliban on Saturday freed four Turkish citizens who were kidnapped in December 2010 in Dand Patan district of eastern Paktia province, the Taliban and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said.

Early Sunday the ICRC handed over the Turkish citizens to the NATO-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Ghazni province, southwest of Kabul, the Ghazni head of the ICRC, Belal Ahmad, told Reuters.

The Taliban said in a statement that they had freed the men to mark the holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which comes at the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. – Reuters
