US terrorism threat may be linked to al Qaeda boss

There is reason to believe that the credible, but still unconfirmed, terrorism threat against New York City and Washington may be linked to al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, a U.S. official told Reuters on Friday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Zawahiri took the reins of al Qaeda after Osama bin Laden was killed in May in a U.S. raid in Pakistan.
