Attacks across Kenya as citizens watch football

A grenade attack in the Kenyan port city of Mombasa killed one person and wounded many others, officials said on Sunday night.               

Coast region police chief Aggrey Adoli said the grenade was thrown into a bar outside Mombasa late on Sunday.                  

He confirmed one death and put a preliminary figure of eight on the number of injured, although local media reported 12."We can't really give you the figure right now. The figure as it was reported in the first instance - about eight and we are yet to confirm," Adoli said.             

Winsley Otana, injured in the blast said it sounded like gunshots. He described how people ran 'helter skelterly' for their lives.           

Kenya has seen several small-scale grenade attacks since the country sent troops to Somalia in October.          

The latest attack came only hours after Kenyan officials protested against a US Embassy travel advisory released on Friday warning of an imminent attack in Mombasa.                  

Officials said the advisory amounted to "economic sabotage" in a city that relies heavily on tourism.                    

The attack happened as Kenyans watched the Euro 2012 football game between England and Italy.
