Hamas MPs urge Abbas to renounce statehood bid

Hamas movement MPs urged Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday to renounce his “unilateral bid” for recognition of a Palestinian state at the U.N.

The political and legal committees of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) urged the Arab League, following a meeting in Gaza, to withdraw the Arab initiative and to unshackle the hands of the people, allowing them to fight against the Israeli occupation and liberate their land and holy sites.

Hamas MPs warned of the political and legal pitfalls of such an initiative and the impact it may have on the PLO and the Palestinian right of return.
