Israel's Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Public Diplomacy Yuli Edelstein hoped that Turkey would use common sense amid the severe diplomatic crisis between the two countries. “Despite Turkish attempts to provoke an escalation, we are acting with restraint and we are not pouring oil on the fire”, Edelstein told the state-run Israeli radio.

Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon told the same radio that it is better for Israel to remain silent and not respond to the fiery statements made in the region.

Former Israeli ambassador to Cairo and consul in Ankara Elie Shaked said that Erdogan saw himself as "the new sultan of the Middle East that he wants to lead by political means”.
