Washington criticizes laws against the burqa in France and Belgium
In a report on religious freedom around the world, the United States condemned a surge of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in Europe, criticizing the laws banning the burqa in France and Belgium.

U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said on Tuesday that the world is witnessing a “sharp deterioration” in the protection of religious freedom.

Clinton highlighted the growing number of European countries, mainly France and Belgium whose laws restricting the dress code have an adverse effect on Muslims among other groups.
