NASA stated Monday that the alignment of comet Elenin with other celestial bodies will have no impact on the earth, stressing that “Elenin will not encounter any dark bodies that could perturb its orbit, nor will it influence us in any way here on Earth.”

There have been incorrect speculations on the Internet that alignments of comet Elenin with other celestial bodies could cause consequences for Earth and external forces could cause comet Elenin to come closer.

 NASA added that “If we look at the sun from the earth, no comet will be visible to the naked eye and we will not notice any change. And even if Elenin passes before the sun it will not totally obscure it as some speculated, given its relatively small size compared to the sun.”
