Contradictory remarks on US military presence on Jordanian soil
The New York Times Daily published on Wednesday that a US task force was deployed in Jordan to help the Jordanian armed forces handle “a flood of Syrian refugees” and “prepare for the possibility of Syria losing control of its chemical weapons”.

The daily added that the force includes 150 planners and other specialists led by a senior American officer. They will draw up plans in an attempt to "insulate Jordan from the upheaval in Syria."

According to the daily, the force is based at a Jordanian military training center, less than 55 km away from the Syrian border, making it the closest American military presence to the conflict.

For its part, Jordan denied the presence of US forces in the Kingdom to help the Jordanian armed forces handle the Syrian refugees on its land and face any risk related to Syrian chemical weapons.
