Libyan interim government forces capture Sirte airport
Forces of Libya's interim government have captured the airport in Muammar Gaddafi's hometown of Sirte, one of two main remaining bastions of support for the deposed leader, Reuters journalists at the scene said.

Fighters from the ruling National Transitional Council have launched two full-on assaults on Sirte in the past week with support from NATO warplanes, but have been held at bay by sniper and artillery fire from Gaddafi loyalists in the city.

On the other hand, Muammar Gaddafi's former prime minister, Al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmoudi, has started a hunger strike in a prison in Tunisia to protest a request for his extradition from Libya's new rulers, his lawyer said on Thursday.

Tunisian prosecutors say they have received the request from the National Transitional Council (NTC) and are therefore keeping him in prison despite him winning an appeal against a 6-month jail sentence for crossing into Tunisia illegally.
