REPORT: Malala, girl shot by Taliban, to undergo final surgery

British doctors say Pakistani girl Malala Yousufzai, shot in the head by Taliban fanatics, will undergo one final surgery to cover the hole left in her skull with a titanium plate.

Dr. Dave Rosser of Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital says Malala will also be fitted with a cochlear implant to restore the hearing in one of her ears.

The 15-year-old was shot through the side of her face by Taliban angered at her objection to the group's interpretation of Islam, which limits girls' access to education.

Her story  and her remarkable recovery  captured world attention.

Rosser said Wednesday that Malala has been monitored for hormonal changes, memory loss and other long-term effects of brain trauma but that doctors have so far seen none.
