Malaysia attacks Filipino armed group

Malysia launched on Monday an attack on an armed group affiliated to a Filipino leader claiming the independence on the Malaysian part of Borneo region, according to Malaysian PM Najib Abdl Razak.

Abdl Razak confirmed that Malaysian forces clashed with the armed group and left 27 dead among them.

It is worth mentioning that the group is claiming recognition and an increased payment from the Malaysian government for their claim as the owners of Sabah, a fragment of the Island of Borneo which Malaysia leased to British colonialists in the 19th century.

Malaysia has refused the demands and Manila has requested from the group to put down its weapons. However the violence has sparked a political crisis ahead of elections in both countries.
