Spread of Bird flu cost China industry $6.5 billion

The spread of China's human H7N9 bird flu has cost the country's poultry industry over 40 billion yuan ($6.5 billion) as consumers to avoid chicken, and other by-products, state media said on Monday.

H7N9 avian influenza has infected about 130 people in China, claiming the lives of 35 persons.

As a result, poultry sales have decreased, leading to many financial problems and job losses.

In this regard, poultry business leaders as well as officials held in the province of Shandong a widely reported all-chicken lunch in a bid to boost confidence, Chinese media reported.
