Pope expresses 'deep sadness' over 'innocent' Middle East victims: Vatican to AFP

Pope Leo XIV has expressed "deep sorrow" for victims of the Middle East war, including "many innocent people" and a Lebanese Maronite priest, the Vatican press office told AFP on Monday.

The U.S. pope “is following events with concern and praying for a swift end to hostilities,” Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said in a statement.
