US deputy Deputy Secretary of State meets with Lebanese officials

The head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt met on Sunday at his residence in Clemenceau with the US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns in the presence of the US ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly, caretaker Public Works Minister Ghazi Aridi and caretaker Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour, as well as Taymour Jumblatt. Burns left Jumblatt’s residence without making any statement.

The US official then visited Beit al-Wasat where he met with the head of the Future bloc MP Fouad Siniora and discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the region, in the presence of Connelly, MP Nouhad al-Mashnouq and the advisors Mohammad Shatah and Murad al-Jamal.

Burns arrived to Beirut following a trip to Baghdad on board an American military plane.
