REPORT: Roadside bomb targets LAF patrol in Arsal’s Wadi Ata
A roadside bomb explosion targeted Friday a patrol of the Fifth Intervention Force Regiment of the Lebanese Armed Forces, on al-Raayan road in the region of Wadi Ata in the northeastern town of Arsal.

The explosion injured a Lieutenant Colonel, a Sergeant and a soldier.

According to information made available to LBCI, the injuries of the army members are minor.

Later, the Lebanese Armed Forces Command issued a statement whereby it said that a roadside bomb explosion targeted an army patrol in the northeastern town of Arsal, injuring three army members.

The statement added that while another patrol, accompanied by a military expert was heading to the scene, it came under fire by gunmen located in the town’s mountainous region. The army members responded to the sources of fire and chased the gunmen who escaped across the town’s hill, the statement added.

Accordingly, Lebanese army units deployed in the area and took the necessary measures on the ground, while the military police launched an investigation in the incident.

In turn, al-Qadea-linked Al-Nusra Front said that two Hezbollah members were spotted last night (Thursday) in Arsal’s Wadi Ata planting a mine, which today targeted the LAF patrol.

Arsal and surrounding areas have been the site of clashes between soldiers and militants from al Qaeda's Syria wing, Nusra Front, and the militant group Islamic State. Gunmen from the groups briefly took over the town in August and took a group of soldiers captive.
