Heavy gunfire heard on Syrian-Turkish border, 9 dead

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that nine soldiers were killed and two injured in a battle with defectors west Syria on Sunday. A local source said that heavy gunshots were heard Saturday night on the Syrian Turkish border, causing panic amongst Turkish residents.

The residents of border town of Govchi in the Turkish province of Hatai said that the Syrian army carried out an operation against opposition forces in the village of Ain Al Bayda on the Syrian side.

Anatolian news agency reported that Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu contacted the governor of Hatai to discuss the situation.

The general observer for the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan Sheikh Hammam Saiid urged Arabs and Muslims on Sunday to boycott Russian and Chinese products, in protest for the two vetoes used against the Arab League-backed draft law that condemns violence in Syria.

“These two countries should realize that their interests do not lie with the Syrian regime, but with the Syrian people”, Saiid said. He added that the Muslim Brotherhood considers these two vetoes target all Arabs and Muslims.

Australian police said that dozens of protesters chanting against the Assad regime and the bloody massacre of Homs attacked and vandalized the Syrian Embassy in Australia, Saturday night.

Tunisian PM Hamadi Al-Jabali urged all countries to expel Syrian ambassadors to express their dismay over the bloody crackdown.

On a different note, Reuters news agency reported that Syria’s national sugar factory has halted production due to poor security in the country.
