REPORT: Jumblatt holds onto candidacy of MP Henri Helou
Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt welcomed on Thursday the latest rapprochement between the Lebanese Forces party and the Free Patriotic Movement.

Jumblatt’s comments were made following The Democratic Gathering’s meeting at Clemenceau whereby he asserted that he is still holding onto the candidacy of MP Henri Helou.

He also valued the candidacy of Marada leader MP Sleiman Frangieh, deeming it as an exit from the crisis.

Geagea announced on Monday his support for Free Patriotic Movement founder  MP Michel Aoun, putting him at dispute with Marada Movement chief MP Sleiman Franjieh, who is Hariri’s candidate.

MP Henri Helou, who is the nominee of Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat, said on Wednesday he would not withdraw his candidacy for the presidency following the deal between the Lebanese Forces and the Free Patriotic Movement.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of president Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 without the election of a successor.
