Health minister announces full hospitalization coverage for senior citizens

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour announced Tuesday that a budget of 17 billion LL will be dedicated to provide full hospitalization coverage for all the Lebanese people aged 64 and above.

The announcement was made at the Grand Serail during a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil.

“No Lebanese will be prevented from entering hospital if he needs so,” Abou Faour said.

"An admission mechanism will be put in place to prevent exploitation of the deal by distinguishing between those who need to be admitted to hospital and those who don’t," the minister added.

For his part, Prime Minister Tammam Salam noted that “a healthy political life requires significant efforts in order to confront all the challenges.”

“We need to address the country’s main issues, including the oil and gas reserves,” Salam added.

The premier also said that he sensed the ministers’ awareness and responsibility in terms of the budget.

During the joint press conference, Hassan Khalil pointed out that he hoped this policy will be the beginning of a more comprehensive plan to introduce free hospitalization for all, regardless of age.
