Fatfat to LBCI: I am not convinced in electing Aoun as president
Future bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat said on Wednesday that the statements issued by the Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun contradict with a long course of stances with the future Movement.

Fatfat’s comments were made in a phone call with Nharkom Said TV show whereby he noted that “Aoun’s 30 years in politics and its performance do not make us rest assured.”

He concluded by saying that he is not “convicted” in electing Aoun as president, adding that he prefers the election of Marada Movement leader MP Sleiman Frangieh as Lebanon’s next president instead of Aoun.

Free Patriotic Movement founder MP Michel Aoun hailed on Tuesday his latest talks with Future Movement leader former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, dubbing them  as “very positive.”

“Hariri is the leader of the Lebanese Sunnis. It is only natural to have him as the country's prime minister,” he said during an interview on OTV channel.

Lebanon has been plunged into a presidential vacuum since the mandate of Michel Sleiman ended in May 2014 and Hezbollah, Aoun's Change and Reform bloc and some of their allies have been boycotting the electoral sessions, stripping them of the needed quorum.

Hariri, who is close to Saudi Arabia, launched an initiative in late 2015 to endorse the nomination of Marada Movement leader MP Sleiman Frangieh for the presidency but his proposal was met with reservations from the country's main Christian parties as well as Hezbollah.

Hariri's move prompted Geagea to support the nomination of Aoun, after months of political rapprochement talks between their two parties.

The supporters of Aoun's presidential bid say that he is more eligible than Frangieh to become Lebanon’s next president due to the size of his parliamentary bloc.
