MP Alain Aoun to LBCI: Formation of a new government will be swift

Change and Reform bloc MP Alain Aoun voiced hopes on Tuesday that the election of Free Patriotic Movement founder MP Michel Aoun as a president “would give a new chance for the country.”

Aoun’s comments were made during a phone call with Nharkom Said TV show whereby he noted that the formation of a new government will be swift.

He also praised the efforts made by Speaker Nabih Berri during Monday’s electoral session, dubbing him as a “true man of state” who assumed his national responsibilities to the fullest.

“We are now in front of a new phase that requires the cooperation of all parties,” Aoun concluded by saying.

Lebanese lawmakers elected on Monday former army commander Michel Aoun as president on Monday, filling a post that had been vacant for more than two years and injecting hope that the country's long-running political paralysis would come to an end.
