Salameh: Syrian events will not lead to Lebanese banks destabilization
Central Bank Governor, Riyad Salameh, said on Monday that Syrian events will not destabilize Lebanese banks operating in Syria thanks to precautionary measures taken by the central bank.

“The Lebanese finance sector has proven its resilience in the face of crises”, he added.

In a statement to Al-Mustaqbal daily to be published on Tuesday, Salameh considered that the Syrian crisis has taken its toll on the Lebanese economy and on revenues of Lebanese banks in Syria.

Lebanese banks are committed to ensuring the reputation of safety, stability and transparency of its banks within the context of international standards.

Commenting on the issue of the Lebanese-Canadian Bank, Salameh ensured that the page has been folded, adding that the bank is now obsolete. As for the accounts, the governor confirmed that they have all been forwarded to the judiciary, adding that he will be following up the case.
