Mikati: I took office to provide a solution, not to be an additional problem
Prime Minister Najib Mikati hoped that current loopholes in governmental work would be closed before the next cabinet session, adding that the current debate is about the legalization of public spending not the availability of funds.

In a meeting with participants at the second and last day of the “Economic and Business Forum” at Phoenicia Hotel on Friday, Mikati said that he took office to provide a solution to problems, not to be an additional problem.

“Neither the ministers nor I accept to be the problem; the best solution is for the cabinet to be strong and to serve the country”, Mikati said.

On another note, Mikati reassured all parties that banks in Lebanon are robust, adding that there is a strong shift towards deposits and liquidity.

“The Central Bank of Lebanon currently has the biggest foreign currency reserves; we must keep it away from the political conflict”, he said.

On the public accountability law, Mikati said that each political party sees it according to its own analysis and political background. He added “in the end, we must find a solution to address the problem of public spending”.
