REPORT: MP Chehayeb from Ain Dara: Dahr al-Baidar Mountain became Dahr al-Baidar plain

Residents of a Mount Lebanon town of Dahr al-Baidar protested on Tuesday against a cement factory that is being built in the region despite their objections.

"Because of the Fattoush family, Dahr al-Baidar Mountain became Dahr al-Baidar plain,” MP Akram Chehayeb said during the protest in support of the residents of Ain Dara.

Chehayeb was referring to businessman Pierre Fattoush, the owner of the factory, and his brother, former MP Nicolas Fattoush.

“We set hopes on this government that promised to protect the environment,” Chehayeb said during the protest.

For his part, MP Fadi Habr said that the region is a huge source of water for Mount Lebanon and Beirut.

“We want to keep out air and water clean, and all we want from the Fattoush family is clean air, not a cement factory,” Habr concluded by saying.
