Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea met with President Michel Aoun on Tuesday at Baabda Presidential Palace where they discussed the issue of the new electoral law.
Following the meeting, Geagea said that “if an agreement was reached in this regard, then everything will be good; otherwise the issue must be referred to the parliament to vote on the law.”
“Failure to reach an agreement and failure to hold a parliamentary session to vote on a law are two unacceptable situations,” he stated, reiterating rejection of 1960s law.
Concerning the issue of electricity, Geagea emphasized the importance of considering the shift towards the privatization of the power generation sector, noting that the current situation is intolerable, “therefore another solution must be found.”
In this context, he added that PM Saad Hariri supports this opinion, revealing that he is currently working on convincing Speaker Nabih Berri.
He also said that he is discussing this matter with all parliamentary blocs in a bid to find a new solution that leads to 24/7 power supply for all Lebanese people without imposing anymore taxes.
