Al-Rafei: Syrian regime excuses aim at extending rule
Sheikh Salem al-Rafei, Imam of the Taqwa Mosque, announced on Saturday that the events in Tripoli are tied with the Syrian issue, adding that all the excuses put forth by the Syrian regime aim at extending its rule.

In a statement to Nharkom Said TV Show, al-Rafei said that the Syrian regime is calling for U.S. tenders because its rule is at stake and is claiming that Lebanon harbors members of al-Qaeda and terrorist groups, which he refuted.

Commenting on the issue of arms, al-Rafei explained that arms should be placed under the state’s authority, adding that arms are present in Tripoli for self-defense amid the deteriorating security situation.

Al-Rafei stressed the need to disarm all parties with no exception.

Meanwhile, al-Rafei stated that he is awaiting the investigation into the Shadi Mawlawi case, adding that if those investigations prove that Mawlawi is a murderer, “we will not defend him”. “However, if the case turns out to be politicized, we will step up our movement."
