Gunmen bristling with ammo in attendance of Sunni clerics funeral

The funeral ceremonies of Sheikh Ahmad Abdel Wahed and his companion, Sheikh Mohmmad Hassan Merheb kicked off on Monday upon the arrival of both corps to Al-Bireh, Akkar amid popular and political crowds. Fireworks were shot out and shots were fired into the air.      

Meanwhile, the ISF managed to open all roads in Akkar so that all participants in the funeral of Sheikh Ahmad Abdel Wahed and his companion could reach the desired place.    

Earlier in the morning, the Shtoura, Saadnayel, Marej and Kob Elias roads in the Bekaa were reopened after they had been blocked overnight in protest of the killing of Sheikh Ahmad Abdel Wahed and his companion who were killed Sunday at a Lebanese Army checkpoint in Kwaikhat in Akkar.    

Meanwhile, LBCI's camera showed a normal traffic in the city of Tripoli.         

In a speech pronounced during the funeral ceremony, MP Khaled Daher said that as long as this government is threatening the Lebanese people’s security, “Lebanon’s spring will continue”.         
Daher said that PM Najib Mikati must overthrow the government that is marginalizing the majority of the Lebanese, calling for a fair trial leading to the punishment and execution of the perpetrators.           

For his part, Mufti of Akkar Sheikh Osama Rifai said that the road is long; he called on citizens to spare their efforts and capacities and to put their hands together. Rifai stressed that it is the duty of the President, the Prime Minister and the LAF commander to follow up on the killing of the two Sheikhs.          

The Future bloc’s Secretary General Ahmad Hariri called for self-restraint, stressing that justice will be served and the blood of the two martyrs will not go to waste.            

The Association of Muslim Scholars said that the crime was a premeditated murder, calling on Dar el Fatwa to follow up on the crime immediately until perpetrators are punished and the issue of detained Islamists is resolved.
