Al-Mawlawi released on 500,000 LBP bail, says forced into confession under torture

Shadi al-Mawlawi arrived on Tuesday to the minister of finance Mohammad Safadi’s office in Tripoli, immediately after his release from the military court. His supporters are gathering in al-Nour Square in Tripoli to celebrate with him. After that, Mawlawi went to al-Nour square and then headed to Mikati’s residence. Festive firing was heard in el-Kobba in celebration of the arrival of el-Mawlawi.

Shadi al-Mawlawi confirmed that he has been arrested because he assisted Syrian refugees, noting that his release proved his confidence in the Lebanese judiciary.  

Firework celebrations erupted at Al-Nour Square in Tripoli after it was declared that the military investigatory judge Nabil Wehbe approved on the release proposal of Shadi al-Mawlawi. This approval is based on the opinion of the government's delegate at the military court, Judge Saqr Saqr, who suggested releasing al-Mawlawi from custody on bail of 500,000 LBP, and a travel ban has been imposed on him as well.        

In an exclusive interview, one of Mawlawi’s lawyers stressed that the decision to release al-Mawlawi is based on full conviction because it has been revealed that the investigations did not prove any accusation against Shadi al-Mawlawi.              

Earlier, Wehbe interrogated al-Mawlawi for one hour in the presence of his lawyer Mohammad Hafizah, amid strict security measures.                

In information to LBCI, the investigation covered issues only related to Al-Qaeda. It was also reported that there was not a confrontation between Mawlawi and the Jordan detainee or any other suspect.        

Sheikh Dai al-Islam al-Shahhal accused, in a statement to LBCI, the Syrian regime of exporting strives into Lebanon. He stressed that Lebanese judiciary is one of the best, but pressure is being exerted on it.

Sheikh Salem al-Rafii confirmed that understood why we went to the streets, not to oppose the justice but to stand by it, adding that the tents set up in protest against al-Mawlawi’s detention will be dismantled.       

AL-Rafii told LBCI that PM Mikati demanded that Mawlawi arrives to his home in Tripoli in the car of miniter of finance Mohammad Safadi. He noted that Judge Saiid Mirza informed Mikati that the files of most of the Islamists detainees will be finalized within one week.
