Families of abducted soldiers receive the painful truth after years of waiting

Director General of General Security Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim declared Sunday that work is underway to retrieve remains believed to belong to the abducted soldiers, adding that the remains of 6 people have been retrieved so far.

Ibrahim, who met with the families of the abducted soldiers in Riad al-Solh square, did not affirm that these remains belong to the soldiers, noting that the confirmation of the identities requires DNA tests.

The Maj. Gen. noted that they had information back in 2015 regarding the death of the soldiers but they were unable to confirm it.

He also stressed that the army’s battle in the mountains will not end until the withdrawal of the last Islamic State fighter from the Lebanese territories.

After Ibrahim made his declaration, some of the soldiers’ relatives had emotional breakdowns and were transported by the Red Cross to a nearby hospital, among them their spokesman Hussein Youssef.

In this context, Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun contacted Hussein Youssef and stressed that he will follow up on the case of the soldier until the very end.
