More than two years after Islamic State militants were driven out of the Syrian border town of Kobani, signs of widespread destruction are still prevalent.
Many buildings lie in rubble, while reconstruction of others has begun.
Known as Ayn al-Arab in Arabic, the town was a focal point in the international fight against Islamic State, who were driven out in January 2015.
But, the Kurds' expanding role in the fight against IS deepened concerns in Turkey, which is fighting a Kurdish insurgency in its southeast.
Turkey closed the border in 2015, aggravating hardships for local residents. Among them is Rachid Ali, who repairs car tyres.
But, another Kobani resident said if there was no help forthcoming from international sources, the Kurds would rebuild the town themselves.
