REPORT: Aoun after meeting Governor-General of Australia says ways must be found to secure return of refugees

President Michel Aoun received on Monday the Governor-General of Australia, Peter Cosgrove at the Baaba Presidential Palace.

 

Aoun briefed Cosgrove about Lebanon’s demand to become an International center accredited by the United Nations for dialogue of religions and civilizations.

 

He also asked Australia to defend Lebanon’s legal rights in International forums, stressing the needs to implement the International resolutions, mainly 1701.

 

On another note, the president stressed importance of reaching a political solution to the Syrian crisis and to find an immediate way to secure the return of the Syrian refugees to their homeland.  

 

Cosgrove then headed to Ain el-Tineh where he met with Speaker Nabih Berri.

 

The Speaker stressed during the meeting the need to boost the bilateral relations between the two countries.

 

On another note, he called on his Australian guest to ensure that his country helps in finding a solution for the conflict in Syria and for the refugee crisis in Lebanon.
