Minister al-Mashnouq welcomes US mediation to resolve border crisis, rules out military confrontation

Interior and Municipalities Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq welcomed the US mediation to resolve the land and maritime border crisis between Lebanon and Israel, during a meeting with US Acting Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield, in the presence of the US Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard.

Al-Mashnouq stressed Lebanon’s attachment to its right to its regional waters and oil wealth, noting that Lebanon rejects any attempt by the Israeli enemy to seize any part of the Lebanese territories.

The two parties also discussed the content of the US mediation to resolve the issue, where al-Mashnouq welcomed the American role, ruling out any possibility that this dispute will lead to a military confrontation.

Satterfield stressed the United States’ insistence on the success of Rome 2 Conference to support the Internal Security Forces and the Lebanese army.
