A number of experts and advisors from the military field provided Prime Minister Saad Hariri with reports and studies explaining the reasons to sign the military cooperation agreement with Moscow and reasons not to sign it.
The government has not yet approved the agreement, but this does not mean it refused it.
In this regard, well-informed sources told LBCI that the agreement was put on the table for discussion, and is being reviewed item by item before coming up with a decision.
The same sources said that the reports and studies presented to PM Hariri said that there are a number of items that must be amended in case the government will approve signature of the agreement.
Among the items that must be amended, some cannot be accepted by Lebanon, such as opening the Lebanese airspaces and airports in case of any emergency deemed by Russia as convenient to do so.
The sources recalled that Lebanon has military cooperation agreements signed with 20 countries, including France, the United States, Britain, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus and China; without denying that signing an agreement with Russia will have political repercussions on Lebanon.
