REPORT: Neemat Frem proposes plan to solve Lebanon’s apple crisis

Candidate Neemat Frem, running for the Maronite seat in keserwan-Jbeil district, said Saturday that “the real problem in the apple crisis in Lebanon is that the country lacks the required quality,” adding that the market suffers also from the smuggling issue, which must be resolved.

During a press conference held to discuss plan to solve the apple crisis, Frem noted that the quality of apples in Lebanon has reached a “disastrous level.”

“Our problem does not only lie in marketing and exportation, but also in quality,” he stated, pointing out that “we must work on increasing the level of premium quality apples, and raising the local consumption in juice, alcoholic beverages and food.”

He stressed that George Frem Foundation will work with farmers to improve the product’s quality.
