President Aoun to BBC Arabia: National unity must be preserved in any future governmental formula
President Michel Aoun voiced on Saturday his satisfaction with the new electoral law, adding that it will allow the representation of both the majorities and minorities.

Aoun’s comments were made during an interview with BBC Arabic TV channel whereby he noted that the new electoral law is not responsible for stirring the instincts and spreading the sectarian atmosphere, blaming the politicians for using such rhetoric.

On another note, the president voiced hopes that a new government would be formed soon after the elections and that according to the regulations set by the Lebanese Constitution.

“The most important thing is to preserve the national unity in any future governmental formula,” he added.

As for the Syrian refugee crisis, Aoun said that Lebanon has provided “the best humanitarian treatment” for the refugees, adding however that the displaced were not forced to return to their countries.
