REPORT: PM-designate Hariri: Final solution for refugees crisis is their return to Syria

Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri said on Tuesday that the final solution concerning the refugees issue is their return to Syria.

Hariri’s comments were made during a meeting with UN Deputy Special Coordinator for Lebanon and UNDP Resident Representative Philippe Lazzarini and UNHCR representative in Lebanon Mireille Girard in the presence of Hariri's advisor for refugees affairs Nadim al-Mounla.

For his part, Lazzarini reiterated the United Nations partnership with Lebanon to responding to the Syrian refugee crisis, asserting that the return to Syria or their reinstallation in a third country, are the only durable solutions.

He also stressed that they respect the refugees' individual decision to return to their homeland and would never hinder their return.

“It is their right and it would be inconceivable to oppose the refugees' decision regarding their future."
