Sleiman at cabinet session:Failure to disclose telecom data turned suspicious

President Michel Sleiman headed a cabinet session at Baabda Palace on Monday to tackle the 2012 budget draft law and the security situation in the country, in the presence of all the Change and Reform bloc’s ministers.     

At the beginning of the session, Sleiman announced that the release of the soldiers and officers accused of killing Sheikh Ahmad Abdul Wahed and his companion Sheikh Mohammad Merheb was due to the end of the pre-trial detention’s deadline.         

On the telecommunications data, Sleiman said that the failure to hand these telecom data to security apparatuses has turned suspicious, “although it’s not”. Therefore, this issue must be dealt with immediately, he said.    

Exclusive sources told LBCI that there are three possible scenarios as to the referral of the case of Sheikh Abdul Wahed and his companion to the Judicial Council. “This referral will either be subject to vote, or not; if not, a military committee might be established to take a final decision on this issue”, the sources said. Sleiman had met with Mikati ahead of the session and discussed the general situation and the latest developments.            

Mikati also briefed Sleiman over the outcomes of his visit to Berlin last week.
