The three officers recently released after being detained in Abdul Wahed case were re-summoned for investigation by Lebanese Military magistrate Riad Abu Ghida. they were re-arrested and subsequently transferred to military prison. 

The head of the “Future” Bloc Fouad Siniora said on Saturday that the decision to re-arrest the 3 officers shows the judiciary’s determination in proceeding with the investigations in order to reveal the truth. He noted that “this procedure brings things back to normal”.

Siniora stressed the firmness of his stance regarding the role of the State’s institutions, especially the military institution, in preserving security and stability.

Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri also welcomed the decision noting that this step reinforces the victims’ families and the trust of Akkar 's residents’  both in the Judiciary and in the Lebanese Army.

Hariri said that the Judiciary and the Army are key institutions for building the Lebanese State, stressing that these institutions play an important role in dealing with major events such as the Kwaykhat incident. “We will spare no effort to reveal  the circumstances behind the incident and take legal action  accordingly against those responsible for the murders, whoever they are and whatever their status is,” Hariri said.

Sheikh Abdul Wahed and his companion Sheikh Mohammad al-Merheb were killed on the 20th of May after failing to stop at an LAF checkpoint while on route to a rally organized by MP Khaled Daher in Halba to commemorate the killing of Future Movement supporters during clashes in 2008.            

Thursday 5th of July saw the release of 11 military personal, including 3 officers, involved in the death of Sheikh Abdul Wahed and his comrade. The three officers released include two captains and a lieutenant.
