Nadine Labaki’s Capharnaum shortlisted for Oscars Best Foreign Language Film

The shortlist for this year's Oscar nominees for Best Foreign Language Film has been revealed.

 

It's one of nine different categories, including Original Song, Documentary Feature and Visual Effects, made public on Monday (December 15).

 

Among the nine nominees, whittled down from 87 eligible films, are Alfonso Cuaron's “Roma” from Mexico, Poland's “Cold War” and Lebanon's “Capernaum.” Palme d'Or winning “Shoplifters” from Japan and South Korea's “Burning” also make the list, the latter starring former “The Walking Dead” actor Steven Yeun.         

 

Also making the list are thriller “The Guilty” from Denmark, Germany's “Never Look Away,” Kazakhstan's “Ayka” and “Birds of Passage” from Columbia.

 

Nominations for the 91st Academy Awards will be announced on January 22, 2019 and the awards will be handed out on February 24, 2019.
