Berri: Government is burying head in the sand concerning Syria
Speaker Nabih Berri said on Tuesday that what brings Lebanon and Jordan together is their commitment to supporting the Palestinian people “until achieving their national aspirations.”
Berri’s comments were made during a ceremony organized by the Lebanese embassy in Jordan where he is on an official visit to partake in the 29th Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union’s conference.
“What unites the two countries is the continuous coordination to fight terrorism on the borders of the two countries and the borders of the two communities,” he added.
He also criticized the Lebanese government for not communicating with Syria over the return of refugees and the Nassib border crossing.
“The government is burying its head in the sand and is not speaking to Syria about the refugee returns and the Nassib border crossing as well as reconstruction plans in Syria,” he noted.
He also stressed that the Lebanese people is waiting for the new government to start addressing the electricity crisis, corruption, oil extraction and the pollution of the country’s rivers.
Berri concluded by voicing hopes that the 2019 year would be the year of restoring confidence between the Lebanese people and their government.
