Nahas to LBCI: Approach adopted in electricity sector has not changed

MP Nicolas Nahas said Friday that the system adopted since the 1990s has not changed, noting that Lebanon has reached the end.

In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Nahas stressed that the remarks made by Banque du Liban Governor Riad Salameh regarding the economic situation are true, adding that the public debt cannot remain as it is.

“We have to change our system and convince the international institutions that we have turned the page and taken the right path,” he stated, noting that the main problem is the loss of a fixed structure.

In this context, the deputy said that the measures should be coherent and should reach everyone, "since corruption has infiltrated all the sectors."

He stressed that the Cedre reforms are not proposed at the moment, explaining that each item requires a round table so all the parties approve it.

Nahas also said that work must kick off on the 2020 budget, calling on the parties to sit together and start shaping the vision for the year 2020.

On the electricity issue, the MP said that the approach adopted in this sector has not changed, “it is only being embellished instead.”
