Bassil: There is no justification for the refugees staying in Lebanon
Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil asserted on Thursday that Paraguay understands Lebanon’s problems due to the presence of the Lebanese community in the country.
“The president of Paraguay is of Lebanese origin too,” he added following his meeting with his Paraguayan counterpart Louis Alberto.
“A memorandum of understanding between the ministries of tourism of both countries was inked which will contribute to strengthening the bilateral relations,” Bassil announced.
On another note, the Lebanese minister stressed the importance of implementing the International resolution adopted in Geneva and Astana because “Lebanon is suffering from the Syrian refugees on its land.”
“We need an International understanding as there is no justification for the vast of majority of refugees staying on our lands,” he added.
“their return must be accelerated,” Bassil stressed.
For his part, Alberto said that the Lebanese community in Paraguay is “a large, respected and strong community and has contributed greatly to the country throughout history.”
He concluded by stressing that Paraguay will stand by Lebanon and will support its interests.
